Here’s a list of books that have influenced my thinking. Innovation often comes from the convergence of disparate ideas and I’m a big advocate of reading outside of ones field of expertise. Hopefully this list reflects that. Please let me know if there’s something I should be reading that’s not on the list.

by Shreefal S. Mehta: Overview of commercializing technologies within the context of biotechnology.
- Biotechnology Valuation: An Introductory Guide (The Wiley Finance Series)
by Karl Keegan: a good introduction to valuing biotechnology companies. It mostly deals with publically traded companies but also touches on private companies.
Product Development
- The Four Steps to the Epiphany
by Steven Gary Blank: the manual for product and customer discovery.
- Inspired: How To Create Products Customers Love
by Marty Cagan: a good book about product management.
- Making Things Happen: Mastering Project Management (Theory in Practice (O’Reilly))
by Scott Berkun: a good book on project management.
Startup
- The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses by Eric Ries: a great book on applying Lean Startup methodologies to your venture.
- The Art of the Start: The Time-Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything
by Guy Kawasaki: a must read for those starting companies, organizations, products, etc..
- Reality Check: The Irreverent Guide to Outsmarting, Outmanaging, and Outmarketing Your Competition
by Guy Kawasaki: extends on the ideas in Art of the Start
- Getting to Plan B: Breaking Through to a Better Business Model
by John Mullins and Randy Komisar: gives a systematic framework for adapting for success.
Venture Capital
- Venture Deals: Be Smarter Than Your Lawyer and Venture Capitalist by Brad Feld, Jason Mendelson, and Dick Costolo: gives a term-by-term understanding of venture deals.
- Raising Venture Capital for the Serious Entrepreneur by Dermot Berkery: gives a good overview of the process of raising venture dollars.
- Venture Capital and the Finance of Innovation
by Andrew Metrick: the nuts and bolts of venture capital finance and then some.
